Abstract
It is the desire of the navy to develop ships with
the highest possible speed compatible with other requirements
of weight, space, and economy. This is especially
true for small boats such as torpedo boats where speed is
the main defensive weapon. If the frictional resistance
of a ship could be reduced by air lubrication, higher speeds
could be attained with the same horsepower.
