dc.description.abstractThe Series 60 resistance and self-propulsion model test results are represented by curve fitting methods which result in functions contaiing Chebyshev polynomials. The accuracy of the curve fitting method is discussed and the range of validity of the functions is presented. A computer program for the calculation of EHP and SHP for single-screw merchant ships with hull proportions falling within the range of the Series 60 is discussed in detail. Several examples in the use of the program are presented. It is concluded that estimates of EHP and SHP can be calculated to within a tolerance in the neighborhood of 1% on the average, and with great certainty, to within a tolerance of less than 3% for any given speed.en_US
