dc.description.abstractHere is a simple example of control of inherently unstable system. An inverted pendulum pivoted on top of a cart is to be stabilized by applying force to the cart through an electric motor. In the electrical laboratory of the United States Naval Postgraduate School, a cart with a stick pivoted on top of it has been built, tested and simulated with CDC 1604 digital computer. The author, Lieutenant Mu-yu Wan of the Chinese Navy, wishes to thank Dr. Harold A.
