An analysis of smooth and axially finned, rotating heat pipe condensers.

Kleinholz, Adam F. (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1983-06)
A mathematical model is developed to determine the heat transfer rate of a cylindrical condenser section of a rotating heat pipe. This model is coupled to an existing code and an analysis is accomplished on both a smooth ...

A three dimensional solution of the transient field problem suing isoparametric finite elements.

Lew, Girard Thomas (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1972-12)
An isoparametric finite element formulation solving a general form of the transient field equation is presented in this thesis. The formulation is developed for fields in three-dimensional Euclidean space. A FORTRAN IV ...

Non-numerical applications of computer programming in the construction of problem oriented languages.

Elliott, Lawrence Bruce (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1979-12)
A discussion of several non-numerical techniques that are useful in FORTRAN programming is presented. The use of these techniques is then illustrated with a problem oriented language called CAL-NPS. This last program is ...

Numerical optimization for internal expanding brake

Peer, Mordechai (Monterey, California; Naval Postgraduate School, 1981-03)
This report deals with design optimization of internal-expanding rim brakes. A computer program was developed to calculate the actuating force, torque, stopping time and drum temperature. The drum temperature is calculated ...

Parametric study of the aerothermodynamics of a jet engine test facility

Ratner, Todd G. (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1989)
A three-dimensional numerical analysis of the Jet Engine Hush House located at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida was developed using the PHOENICS computer code. The PHOENICS code was used to determine the steady state ...

Stress concentration in fibrous composite material

Alves, Carlos Roberto Santos (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1975-06)
This thesis work involves an initial study on Stress Concentration caused by holes out of center in thin plates of finite width made of Unidirectional and Crossply Fiberglass Composites. The results are reported under ...

The modeling and analysis of an elastic mechanism with clearances

Gnilka, Charles William (Monterey, California ; Naval Postgraduate School, 1971-12)
The classical approach for the analysis of linkages has been to assume rigid elements during operation. As the operational speeds of mechanisms increase, this assumption creates larger errors in the analysis. Thus a better ...

Solution strategies for second order, nonlinear, one dimensional, two point boundary value problems by FEM analysis

Ritter, Baird S. (Monterey, California: Naval Postgraduate School, 1990-12)
This research demonstrates the Galerkin FEM's ability to provide approximate solutions of second order, nonlinear, one dimensional, two point boundary value problems. The research concentrates on the development of ...

Weight optimum arch structures

McDavid, Charles Scott (Monterey, California: Naval Postgraduate School, 1990-12)
This investigation is concerned with minimum weight designs of arch structures. Using the finite element method, the arch is modeled by contiguous bar-beam elements. Element stiffness coefficients in terms of local degrees ...

Analysis of combustion of a composite plate

Luby, Robert Emmett, Jr. (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1981-06)
The combustion of a porous graphite fiber plate is analyzed. A transient one-dimensional, mathematical model is utilized to conduct numerous computer tests. The model simulates the thermal response of a porous graphite ...
