This thesis analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of
the present Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Financial Management
Curriculum. It considers the operational requirements
of the Navy financial manager. On the basis of these analyses,
it concludes that an additional required course be incorporated
in that curriculum. This proposed course of instruction in financial management
and accounting is tailored to meet the needs and requirements
of United States Naval Officers who will be graduates
of the NPS Financial Management Curriculum. The course deals
with the principles of financial management which are relevant
to the public sector. Further, it takes these principles
and concepts and relates them to specific applications in
the United States Navy.
