Management education: an experimental course

This thesis describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a course in the theory and practice of management. It gives an appraisal of programmed learning techniques and compares three methods of teaching management - - by readings, by cases, and by computer gaming. Additionally, it relates student reactions to the opportunity to select one of the three methods. The conclusions emphasize the need for an integrated, dynamic approach to management education. Programmed learning must be supplemented by class lectures and discussions when the theory is being taught. The students need exposure to all three options in the practice phase of the course. Most importantly, the value of a choice between options is seen. The motivation and interest generated thereby surpasses all expectations. An improved course outline, which includes all of the conclusions, is also presented.
