This thesis considers the problem of estimating
Lanchester attrition — rate coefficients for an
aggregated Lanchester-type theater- level combat model,
BALFRAM, which has been used for various high level
defense planning purposes. Several alternative
coefficient-estimation methodologies are examined,
with their strengths, weaknesses, and problems of
implementation in BALFRAM being discussed. Data
requirements for coefficient estimation and approaches
to aggregation are also discussed.
