Higher mode dynamic plastic response of beams with finite-deflections
Abstract
A study into the higher mode dynamic plastic response of beams is reported here. Within the scope of infinitesi- mal deflections, exact solutions are obtained for generic symmetric and antisymmetric modes, using rigid-plastic analysis. In order to account for the influence of finite deflections, an approximate procedure is used. Also a nu- merical procedure which satisfies the field equations at different time instants is developed. Calculations are performed for the elastic perfectly plastic case, using a finite-element formulation along with a finite-difference time integration. Results of the different solutions are compared with experiments.
