dc.description.abstract | Variable width fonts were adapted for use in a 16-bit environment, and an existing font editor was modified to provide for the creation and maintenance of such fonts. A UNIX compatible file format was designed for the storage of digitized characters/ and a set of font-manipulation programs were written. These developments enhance the digital typesetting capability of UNIX. Thirty-four fonts were obtained from the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) and were modified for use under UNIX. The fonts offer a variety of sizes and styles; their selective use allows for a more compact and aesthetic display of textual information in documents produced on a Versatec 1200-A printer /plotter. | en_US |
