| dc.description.abstract | The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) effective 29 December 1970 (P. L. 91-596) and its impact on the U. S. Naval Construction Force (NCF) is examined. The history of the occupational safety legislation in the United States is summarized and discussed. The OSH Act is condensed and interpreted as to meaning. Existing safety programs within the Navy Department, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, and the Naval Construction Force are discussed and compared with the intent of the OSH Act. Specific conclusions on current attitudes towards the OSH Act and safety in the Navy are made, and recommendations for improvement are generated. | en_US |
