dc.description.abstractThe effects of hydrodynamic variables and fluid properties on corrosion of 90/10 Cu-Ni (CDA 706) in single metal exposures and in galvanic couples with platinum were studied in synthetic seawater. An apparatus utilizing circling foil as the specimen holder was redesigned as an experimental apparatus for this study. Various methods were applied to develop corrosion rate data for different flow situations. Particular emphasis was placed on the determination of variable parameters of fluid dynamics, and the correlation of non-dimensional hydrodynamic and mass transfer parameters with experimentally determined corrosion rates. Also, the corrosion morphology was studied macroscopically and microscopically for different velocities, A consideration of theoretical and practical factors concerning mass transfer and corrosion in a flowing medium concluded this study.
