This thesis examines current decision and control theory and U.S. Army doctrine to develop a systematic model of the U.S. Army tactical command control process. The model is investigated in a simulated brigade delay operation using First Battle. The data obtained from the simulation is used to demonstrate specific analytic tools which have potential for application within the command control process. These quantitative tools are proposed as a supplement to the qualitative analysis performed by the force commander and his staff during combat operations. Prospects for employment of these techniques are enhanced by the current development of automated components within the U.S. Army tactical command control system and by training of personnel in quantitative analysis at U.S. Army schools and centers.
