Organizational structure has long been recognized as having an important impact on an organization's ability to accomplish its objectives. This paper provides managers of software development projects with an analysis of the importance of several elements of organizational structure, and of how they can use this knowledge to make decisions which will have a positive impact on the success of their projects. The structural elements discussed are specialization of activities, size of the work group, and standardization of activities. (Author)
