Verification and Validation of the Satellite Marine-layer/Elevated Duct Height (SMDH) Technique

Abstract

The evaluation of the NAWC Point Mugu Satellite Marine-layer/Elevated Duct Height (SMDH) technique (also called IR-Duct) has been conducted using in situ rawinsonde, seasurface temperature (SST) and polar orbiter AVHRR data from the Summer 1994 Monterey Area Ship Track (MAST) experiment and the 1987 FIRE marine stratocumulus experiment.
