In this thesis we present an algorithm for the precise determination of the Mie extinction efficiency parameter. The mathematical representation of the Mie parameters is in the form of an infinite series, and any technique that could be found to accelerate the convergence of the Mie series would have great commercial and military application. Results are presented that show the comparison of the rate of convergence obtained by directly summing the individual terms of the extinction efficiency parameter and the rate obtained using an existing series acceleration technique. It was found that the acceleration method we employed, known as the Levin method of series transformation, proved unsuccessful in accelerating the convergence of the Mie series. However, other acceleration techniques exist and should be explored. In this thesis we present an algorithm for the precise determination of the Mie extinction efficiency parameter. High speed numerical integration of Fermi Dirac integrals
Thompson, Jeremy Stewart. (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1996-06);In this thesis we present an algorithm for the precise determination of Fermi-Dirac (FD) integral functions, for arbitrary values of the parameter and the argument. The FD integrals are a class of functions that are used ... -
Swarm intelligence for autonomous UAV control
Frantz, Natalie R. (Monterey California. Naval Postgraduate School, 2005-06);Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are becoming vital warfare platforms because they significantly reduce the risk of human life while accomplishing important missions. A UAV can be used for example, as stand-in sensor for ... -
A recursively feasible and convergent Sequential Convex Programming procedure to solve non-convex problems with linear equality constraints
Virgili-Llop, Josep; Romano, Marcello (ArXiv, 2018-10);A computationally efficient method to solve non-convex programming problems with linear equality constraints is presented. The proposed method is based on a recursively feasible and descending sequential convex programming ...
