        Abstract
        Parametric x-radiation (PXR) may be described as the Bragg scattering of virtual photons to produce real x-rays when satisfy the Bragg condition dsin0=nl, where 0 is the angle between the electron beam direction and a crystal axis. Enhanced higher order parametric x-radiation from the (002) plane of a mosaic graphite crystal has been observed. Production of PXR of the order n=2 exceed that from the first order, and x-rays of order up to n=6 are readily seen. the production of higher order is obtained by using a thick crystal where the formation and attenuation lengths are exploited to enhance higher energy x-ray formation relative to the lower energy first order radiation, Photons of energy 5 to 30 MeV have been measured. The experiment was conducted with a 90 MeV electron beam from the Naval Postgraduate School electron linear accelerator. A three axis target position program, Easy-Mover, was developed to allow for precision orientation of the crystal axis with respect to the electron beam.

          Production of x-rays by the interaction of charged particle beams with periodic structures and crystalline materials

          Rule, D.W.; Fiorito, R.B.; Piestrup, M.A.; Gary, C.K.; Maruyama, X.K. (SPIE, 1991);
          We describe our recent experimental study of the production of x-rays by an electron beam interacting with a crystal lattice, i.e. parametric x-ray (PX) generation. In this radiation process the virtual photon field ...

          Enhanced higher order parametric x-radiation production

          DiNova, Kay Lynn (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1992-12);
          This thesis examines parametric x-radiation (PXR) which is the Bragg scattering of the virtual photons associated with the Coulomb field of relativistic charged particle from the atomic planes of a crystal. Higher order ...

          A compact tunable x-ray source based on parametric x-ray generation by moderate energy linacs

          Maruyama, X.K.; DiNova, K.; Snyder, D.; Piestrup, M.A.; Li, Qiang; Fiorito, R.B.; Rule, D.W. (1993);
          Parametric x-radiation can be described as the diffraction of virtual photons associated with the electric field of a relativistic charged particle passing through a crystal. In analogy with Bragg reflection of x-rays, ...
