Frequency dependence of sound transmitted from an airborne source into the ocean
Abstract
The predicted dependence of sound transmission on the statistics of the randomly-rough interface between dissimilar fluids has been studied by use of the Helmholtz Integral. The predictions have been verified for radiation from a helicopter hovering, and slowly moving, over the sea, for frequencies to 1000 Hz for a wide range of slowly moving, over the sea, for frequencies to 1000 Hz for a wide range of surface acoustical roughnesses. The roughness parameters are the rms height of the surface, propagation constant, speed of propagation and angle with the normal, respectively. The transmission change of sound pressure as a function of frequency is presented for several conditions of an SH3-D helicopter hovering and flying over or near an array of microphone and sonobuoy hydrophones. A computer code for rapid calculation of bending frequencies of rotor blades
Akin, Hakki E. (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 2002-09);This thesis provides a MATLAB (copyright) code and graphical user interface (GUI) which rapidly estimates the bending frequencies of rotating beams from the knowledge of bending frequencies of nonrotating beams. The approach ... -
Modal analysis of the PHALANX M61A1 close-in weapons system
Hansberry, Robert J. (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1994-12);A Modal analysis of a PHALANX gun assembly was conducted in the laboratory at Naval Postgraduate School. The goal of this analysis is to provide a dynamical description of the gun for studies of the effects of gun modifications ... -
Boiling of highly wetting liquids in oscillatory flow
Turk, Ugur (Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1995-12);In the present study, boiling of highly wetting dielectric fluid has been investigated in an oscillating Fluid environment. A piston is designed to create oscillations in the fluid and over a heated platinum wire. Because ...
