dc.description.abstractThis thesis analyzes the dynamic stability of submersible vehicles in motions in six degrees of freedom. A continuation algorithm is used in order to obtain the steady state solutions in terms of dive plane angle, rudder angle, and longitudinal separation of centers of gravity/buoyancy. The equations of motion are then linearized in the vicinity of the above stated nominal point. The eigenvalues of the linearized system indicate the degree of stability of the nominal motion. The results demonstrate the stabilizing or destabilizing effects of general three dimensional motions as opposed to the traditional use of straight line level flight paths. Recommendations for robust design of control laws for commanded paths in combined horizontal vertical planes are provided.en_US
