Every year the Department of Defense (DoD) spends between 24 and 32 billion dollars on software alone, with maintenance costs comprising the majority of this figure. Recent studies have indicated that an effective solution to help curtail the large maintenance cost is by capturing the rationale which was used to create the systems requirements and designs, and using this information throughout the life cycle. This thesis explores the use of the REMAP/MM model for the purposes of capturing these rationale, and presents a detailed example of how REMAP/MM utilizes multimedia artifacts as tools in various systems development activities.en_US
