Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter has appointed retired Vice Adm. Daniel Oliver as the first permanent civilian presdient of NPS. His five-year term as NPS president will begin on April 1, 2007. Oliver, a former Chief of Naval Personnel, will succeed Dr. Leonard Ferrari who has served as interim president since January. Winter appoointed Ferrari to be the university's 12th provost in October 2006 and later named him the interim president, the first civilian to hold this post.
