Height and kinetic energy oscillations in a limited-region prediction model

A 10-level primitive-equation model designed for prediction of circulations within a limited region of the Tropics is described. The model is initialized from wind and temperature information. During the course of the integration two types of oscillations arose from the imposed horizontal boundary conditions-a short-period height oscillation and a longer period kinetic energy oscillation. The character cf the two oscillations and the boundary conditions needed to remove the oscillations are described.

Effects of 1, 2, 3 and 4 Hz imposed bulk flow oscillations on transition in a straight channel with 40 to 1 aspect ratio Koth, Howard Edwin (Monterey, California: Naval Postgraduate School, 1990-06);A channel with 40 to 1 aspect ratio and rectangular cross-section is used to study the effects of imposed oscillations on transition from laminar to turbulent flow. Oscillations are imposed using a single rotating vane ...
Gough, Matt K.; Reiners, A.J.H.M.; MacMahan, Jamie H.; Howden, Stephan (AGU Publications, 2016-04-01);The inertial frequency is nearly diurnal at 308N latitude which transects the northeastern Gulf of Mexico (NeGoM). At this latitude, near-surface inertial oscillations can amplify due to resonance with diurnal wind ...
Chen, Francis F.; Coopers, Alfred W. (Physical Review Letters, 1962-10-15);A continuous spectrum of low-frequency oscillations is found in many types of gas discharge which are maintained by a flow of current. Previous studies' of such oscillations in reflex discharges have shown that they ...
