Offical Navy Photograph. Officer students of the U.S. Naval School, General Line at Monterey, California received combat awards from Captain Frank T. Watkins, Commanding Officer Roy P. Gee, USN, of Salt Lake City, Utah, received two Gold Stars in lieu of second and third Air Medals for successfully damaging or destroying Japanese shipping and installations in Guadalcanal in 1942 as a Dive Bomer Pilot. Lieutenant Edward F. Leornard, USN, of Long Beach, Caliornia, was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross for Outstanding and Meritorious Achievment as Command Pilot of a Privateer Patrol Bomber operating against Japanese Shipping from Iwo Jima, Tinian and Palawan from February to June 1945. Lieutanant Commander Richard F. Wolfe, USN of Los Angeles, California, Recieved two Gold Stars in lieu of second and third Distinguished Flying Crosses and six Gold Stars in place of six Air Medals for Meritorious Action as Pilot of a Dive Bomber in the Solomon Islands area from August 1943 thru April 1944.
