Offical Navy Photograph. Officer students of the U.S. Naval School, General Line at Monterey, California received combat awards from Captain Frank T. Watkins, Commanding Officer Roy P. Gee, USN, of Salt Lake City, Utah, received two Gold Stars in lieu of second and third Air Medals for successfully damaging or destroying Japanese shipping and installations in Guadalcanal in 1942 as a Dive Bomer Pilot. Lieutenant Edward F. Leornard, USN, of Long Beach, Caliornia, was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross for Outstanding and Meritorious Achievment as Command Pilot of a Privateer Patrol Bomber operating against Japanese Shipping from Iwo Jima, Tinian and Palawan from February to June 1945.
