NPS alumnus Cmdr. Scott Altman is scheduled to blast into Earth orbit aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis to the International Space Station (ISS) this Friday morning. The STS-106 mission, slated to launch from Kennedy Space Center Sept. 8 at 5:45 a.m. PDT, will be Altman's second flight into space. He first flew in 1998 as the pilot aboard Space Shuttle Columbia on a 16-day mission focused on neurological experiments. This time, Altman again flies as the Shuttle pilot, on a mission to outfit the ISS prior to the late October arrival of the Station's first permanent crew.
