Despite the attention which OR has received since WW II, it has still not achieved the established place in the vocabulary of every naval officer as have other technical terms which grew to prominence during the war. This is not too surprising in one way, inasmuch as the practioneers of this science, Operations Analysts, do not themselves always agree on the definition of OR. It is in order, therefore, to present some of the frequently quoted definitions of OR.
