Riverine Flow Observations and Modeling: Sensitivity of Delft3D River Model to Bathymetric Variability

McMahan, Jamie; Reniers, Ad (2011)
LONG-TERM GOALS: The goal of our effort is to understand riverine fluid dynamics through in situ field observations and model validation.

In-Situ Wave Observations in the High Resolution Air-Sea Interaction DRI

Herbers, Thomas H.C.; Janssen, Tim T (2012-09)
LONG-TERM GOALS: Ocean wave prediction models, based on a spectral energy balance, are widely used to obtain windwave forecasts and hindcasts on global and regional scales (e.g., Komen et al., 1994). However, these inherently ...

Field and Numerical Study of the Columbia River Mouth

Gelfenaum, Guy; MacMahan, Jamie; Reniers, Ad (Naval Postgraduate School, 2013-09-30)
LONG-TERM GOALS: The overall goal is to improve the predictive capability and skill of Delft3D to simulate complex hydrodynamics in an inlet setting in which tides, river discharge, winds, waves, and bottom friction are ...

Coupling of Waves, Turbulence and Thermodynamics Across the Marginal Ice Zone

Stanton, Timothy P. (2013-09)
LONG TERM GOALS: Long term goals are to observe and model processes controlling ice retreat in the marginal ice zone (MIZ), the narrow strip between open ocean and the ice pack where the seasonal retreat of the main ice ...

Coupling of Waves, Turbulence and Thermodynamics Across the Marginal Ice Zone

Stanton, Timothy P.; Shaw, Bill (2015-09)
LONG-TERM GOALS: Detailed process studies of the MIZ are necessary to build accurate Arctic region ice-ocean-atmosphere numerical models. Streove et al. (2007) provide an example of the challenges of modeling the Arctic ...

Characterization of the Upper Slope Sand Dunes in the South China Sea

Reeder, D. Benjamin (2012)
LONG-TERM GOALS: Understand, parameterize and predict the impact of physical mechanisms on acoustic propagation in the ocean environment.
