There are several issues that are encountered when designing a Free Electron Laser (FEL) oscillator in the terahertz (THz) regime. One such issue is that there are few inexpensive materials that are suitable for forming a semitransparent out-coupling mirror. In an attempt to mitigate this particular issue, the focus of this presentation is to explore various out-coupling techniques for a notional FEL oscillator in the THz regime. The advantages and disadvantages of several out-coupling methods will be discussed, including hole out-coupling, and double mesh outcoupling. Simulation results will be presented, showing the effects of these various methods on FEL extraction and optical beam quality.

Crane, William M.; Newman, James H.; Romano, Marcello (2014);A versatile and heretofore unutilized coupling is obtained by press-fitting a hollow nickel titanium shape memory alloy (SMA) shaft into a steel hub. This produces an SMA interference coupling that is distinct from other ...
Kozdon, Jeremy E.; Wilcox, Lucas C. (SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2015-09-28);A methodology for handling block-to-block coupling of nonconforming, multiblock summation-by-parts finite difference methods is proposed. The coupling is based on the construction of projection operators that move a finite ...
