This work is an analysis of the use of a multilevel secure computer system to execute tactical combat applications programs. Using the Gemini Trusted Multiple Microcomputer Base, currently under evaluation by the Department of Defense Computer Security Center, applications and test programs were written and implemented in order to expose some characteristics of the system. Using a Janus/Ada compiler with the necessary library alterations for the Gemini machine, a simple weapons application program was implemented in a system designed to simulate a tactical environment where classified material can be handled in spite of the different levels of security held by the operators that can access the system. The loss in performance due to the secure operating system's overhead is estimated in order to establish the tradeoffs in performance gains due to parallel processing capability of the multiprocessor system.en_US
