dc.description.abstract | These thesis examines the use of expert systems for equipment diagnostics in the Navy. Diagnostic expert systems have the potential to significantly improve fleet readiness by ensuring quick and efficient repair of downed equipment. This thesis provides a brief explanation of expert systems and a look at their core components. It looks at how the Army, Air Force, and industry are using diagnostic expert systems. It describes several diagnostic expert systems under development in the surface Navy as well as one program that has been fielding these systems for several years. Finally, several conclusions about the Navy's work in this area are presented along with recommendations for further study. | en_US |
