Integral indices of performance are brought to bear on the problem of minimizing step response time in some simple control systems. This minimization is subject to a bound on the total control effort that may be expended in response to a step command, Special attention is given to an index whose integrand is a form of the Euclidean norm of the system's states . An example is given showing, for a given system, the development of a weighting scheme for the second term in a two-term index of performance.en_US
