The calculation procedures to be discussed in subsequent sections of this book offer a means of solution to a wide variety of sparation problems. The very fact that they are so versatile, however, requires in their utilization a thorough understanding of the formulation or setting up of the separation problems. To set up or describe a separation problem to be calculated is simply to assign values to the number of independent variables needed to define the problem. The calculation then yields the values of all the dependent values.en_US
